Alabama Anglers Anxiously Await March and April on Lay Lake!

Capt. Reed Montgomery
February 25, 2015
Lay Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

No, you will not see any pictures with this cyberangler report for Lay lake Wednesday, February 25 written by Reed Montgomery of Reeds Guide Service Website www.fishingalabama.com.

But if you scan the "freshwater pictures" section of www.cyberangler for the months of March and April for the past few years, you will immediatly notice the hordes of big bass pictures featured for each month. These are pictures of clients, (and myself and close friends) of my guide service that I submitted each spring season since I began to write for cyberangler in 2011.

Not only will you see some big Coosa River spotted bass and some nice largemouth bass (caught on Alabama's Lay lake in March and April now over 100 years since its impoundment), but other lakes I guide on like Guntersville lake, with a happy lady angler with an 11 pound largemouth bass as well.

I go to any lake in Alabama with the state's oldest, professional guide service of over 40 years. We fool and catch big bass year round. Still, spring is the best time for big bass anywhere on any lake in Alabama!

You will also see me with an 8 pound largemouth bass (seen on my website home page) I caught it in a mid-week Airport Marine solo trail tournament, getting big bass of the tournament and placing third in mid March on Wednesday, March 19 on Lay lake.

There was a full moon 3 days prior to this Airport Marine Solo trail tournament. (See www.airportmarinetrails.com for their full schedule for buddy trail, high school trail and solo trail.)

* The full moon is very important in spring!

Last year in 2014 Airport Marine had their first tournament on Lay lake Saturday, March 29 the day before a new moon.(The full moon was on Sunday, March 16 in 2014.) In that tournament it took 25 pounds to win and 20 pounds to get 7th place! We had a good day by most standards with 17 1/2 pounds and we did not even get in the money!

This year it will occur again with Airport Marine's first tournament scheduled for Saturday, March 21 with a new moon the day before! So make plans to be there! March 1 is only 4 days away!

Thanks, more cyberangler updates on Lay lake and all of Alabama's lakes (including more big bass pictures)...soon. Reed Montgomery owner of Reeds Guide Service phone (205) 663-1504 Alabaster, Alabama Internet Website www.fishingalabama.com

* Now check out the weather report for this coming week! I think you will like it after several inches of snow predicted today for Birmingham and north Alabama!

Lay Lake Fishing Forecast:

Today's Wednesday, February 25 2015 weather report calls for incoming snow and sleet at midday until late tonight for Birmingham to north Alabama! Lows in the upper 20's and highs around 37 degrees today and Thursday high of 45. This calls for staying home if you remember last years storm that caught thousands off guard leaving many motorists stranded for hours on the interstate at midday, far from the comfort of a warm home!

But the upcoming weekend shows highs of 53 degrees Saturday with low-to-mid 60's by Sunday-Monday with a winter warming trend next week! Then you can go fishing...

Target Species:

Largemouth Bass and Spotted Bass
