With lake levels returning to full pool this week shallow bass are evident lake wide. Some bass are still preparing their beds, getting ready to reproduce another year's offspring.

Some bass have already bed, evident by the swept out, bright pale yellow beds, now easily seen in the lake's clear water shallows. Also evident are the schools of newborn baby bass fry, seen "balled up" swimming close together in the lake's shallows.

Big, female bass have already been observed by bass anglers, with most bass released after caught, showing a worn-off or bloody tail, from preparing the bed. Some bass are skinny, mostly from not eating, but most bass look very healthy!

Some bass are now in a post-spawn mode, eating more often and fattening up from the rigors of the spring spawn. Topwater lures have fooled some big, post-spawn female bass!

Also lots of smaller male bass in the 1-2 pound range attacking about any lure fished in shallow water, usually found less than 3-4 feet deep hanging around new growing aquatic weeds, rock cover and wood cover like stumps and brush piles and around piers, boat houses, boat docks and marina release sites.

Many major, "bass tournament caught bass" have been released recently, some are still hanging around these marina's where they were let go, hitting topwater lures, spinnerbaits, shallow running crankbaits and lipless lures. Worms, lizards, beavers, crayfish imitations, creature baits, jig combos and small finesse plastics fished on or near bottom are good!
