Logan Martin Lake Bass, Shallow in August!

Capt. Reed Montgomery
August 22, 2013
Logan Martin Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

After a very cool and somewhat rainy month of July the largemouth bass at Alabama's Logan Martin Lake remain in or near the lakes shallow water weeds, rocks and wood cover for August.

* (Water Temps have soared to near 90 degrees)

Weather predictions for the upcoming Sunday, September first and the second (Labor Day Weekend) show rising air temperatures in the low 90's may show some of these previously shallow bass heading for the security and comfort of the lakes cooler, deeper water.

As usual when its hot, there is always a good topwater bite, especially early or late in the day, from both largemouth bass hitting frogs and buzz baits along weedlines, to zara spooks being nailed by the lakes more aggresive spotted bass along points, sea walls and around wood cover and rock bluffs.

Square-billed, shallow running crankbaits, suspending jerk baits, Rattletraps and Red Eye Shad(lipless lures), including chatter baits and spinnerbaits, are all good for more active bass, all day.

Jigging spoons, deep diving crankbaits, Texas rigged plastics, Carolina rigged plastics, jig combos, swim baits, creature baits and small finesse worms are all good lures fished along main lake points, around islands, along drop-offs, on rock walls and around piers.
