* With Logan Martin Lake down 3-4 feet for winter, extreme caution is advised for any boat navigation.
Mid November shows recent cool nights in the upper-30's have dropped the lakes water temperature into the mid 50's. But, a winter warming trend is on the way this weekend!
Friday, Saturday and Sunday this week shows predicted weather with nighttime lows in the mid 50's and daytime highs in the low 70's with rain Monday and Tuesday.
This winter warming trend will bring water temps back into the low-to-mid 60's. Great fishing weather!
With the lake currently 3-4 feet low wood cover, rocks, piers, boat houses and an irregular bottom feature all attract both spotted bass and largemouth bass that are holding on this cover.
These bass are constantly feeding on baitfish such as bream, shad, minnows and crayfish found in the lake's shallows, seeking refuge around this cover as well. So should your lures!
Fishing with lures such as shallow running square-billed or round-billed crankbaits, rattle traps (or Red Eye Shad) in shad colors, or suspending jerk baits, are all good lure choices.
When bumped into wood cover such as stumps, brush piles, piers, logs or laydown trees, these and other types of lures can trigger "reaction strikes" from bass holding in and around this wood cover.
The outer edges of these types of cover can also be fan cast with lures like spinnerbaits, topwater lures, swim baits and chatterbaits.
Slowing down fishing with weightless lures like Yamamoto's Senkos, Shad imitations like Zoom's Flukes (in watermelon, white or pearl white) or Zoom's trick worms (in brighter colors of white, yellow, bubblegum or limetreuse) will fool bass that other lures will fail to entice a bite.
Cast around and within this wood and rock cover. These weightless lures can fool skittish bass in the lake's currently exceptionally clear water, due to no recent rain.
In deeper water, some bass are currently holding in depths of 5-10 feet deep with schools of bass now found along creek mouths, the points along the mouths of small cuts and pockets and along old river channel stumpy drop-offs.
Deep diving crankbaits, half ounce lipless lures, swim baits on jig heads, Alabama Rigs and heavier model half to three quarters of an ounce spinnerbaits are good lure choices.
On bottom try 1/4 to 1/2 ounce jig combos in colors of black and blue, brown on brown, pumpkinseed with green flake, watermelon, all white or all black color combos.
Finesse fishing with light tackle outfits rigged with 8-10 pound test line, shaky head worm rigs of 1/8 ounce to 3/8 ths ounce works good around man made rip-rap rocks.
Concentrate your finesse fishing efforts in a slow fashion. Fish around rocks found along the lakes lower dam, rocks around bridges, rocks along culverts or banks protected with rocks from wind and wave erosion.
* Also try sea walls made of concrete rocks!
Texas-rigged 6-10 inch worms, 6-8 inch lizards and oversized crayfish are good lures and techniques for big bass! Tube baits, creature baits and beaver type plastics are good as well.
As winter arrives next month look for December bass to relate to the same cover, just a little slower as water temps drop below 50 degrees.
