Orange Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Warm weather and good fishing in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, Alabama. The Spanish mackerel have arrived. These fish are fun to catch and can be caught on 4 hour fishing charters in Orange Beach. We are catching the Spanish mackerel near the beaches. The redfish are still here but they are becoming more difficult to locate. We will probably catch a few more isolated reds untill early April. The cobia are probably still a week or so away. The first one was weighed in Orange Beach on March 29th. See some pics from some fun fishing this past week.

Amberjack are biting offshore on 12 hour trips along with vermillion snapper, triggerfish, grouper, scamp and white snapper. The grouper bite has been slow but we are catching a couple or so on our trip. I hope the amberjack bite continues. It has really been good in deep water.

Red snapper season opens in federal waters on June 1st. The season also opens in Florida waters on April 15th. We are licensed in Florida and the Florida waters are only 30 minutes from the dock. We will be running some 6 and 8 hour red snapper trips beginning April 15th.
Do not forget the Saltwater Series Tournament in Orange Beach, Alabama beginning April 4th and continues through May 26th. An awesome tournmant with 11 categories of fish. Only $10 per angler entry fee. Go to my website at www.getawaygulffishing.com and click on tournaments for more information.

Orange Beach Fishing Forecast:

The fishing forecast for April looks good. The big cobia will be just off the beaches of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Spanish mackerel are here and this bite should continue for a while. Great laid back fishing as we troll along the beach. We will also be looking for a cobia while we are trolling for Spanish mackerel.
The offshore forecast is expected to be good. April is bit early for most offshore trolling fish such as wahoo. However, king mackerel should start hitting. Bottomfishing in deep water should be good for most all species. Amberjack, scamp, grouper, white snapper, vermillion snapper, triggerfish and king mackerel should all be biting in April.
