Orange Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report
Well it's that time of the year that we are on alert again to the possible threat of a Hurricane. As much as we hate to think that one might come our way and cause trouble around here, there is one thing we can be sure of. Whenever there has been a storm pass thru our way especially if the storm came from the south east the Groupers, Scamp and other fish all gather up from being blown up the coast with the currents and tide surge. Typically they hang around the biggest structure they can find. Usually the water is still stirred up with silt and mud that doesn't allow much sun light or visibility. It has been my experience that after each storm the way to have a successful fishing trip is to target the big wrecks first. Think about it, if you were a fish trying to hide or see something to hide around the best chance you would have would be something big enough to see and feel that the current slowed down around it. You'd probably be really glad to see it and when you stop, the first thing you would want to do after getting a little rest is eat.
This is why it's not bad at all to go fishing after a big storm. For the most part it makes it even better. And other good thing is that the whether is usually extremely calm, almost ghostly. Usually the only waves are big rolling swells if any at all. The only problem is finding some good live bait. The pin fish we get around the marina may or may not even be there and the water on the beach out in the Gulf is going to be stirred up as well, so the best thing to do is break out the "Sabiki Rigs"and try for some live Cigar Minnows out in the deeper water on some of the wrecks. Every time there is tropical weather around you can typically count on Good Fishing afterwards. Call me if you have any questions, I'll be glad to help. Captain George Pfeiffer. 1-888-558-3889.
