Smith Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

As another year comes to an end, as usual, Alabama bass anglers fishing Smith Lake can rejoice in the excellant oppurtunity for targeting big Striped Bass, Largemouth Bass and Spotted Bass.(See schooling striped bass and schooling spotted bass pictures at cyberangler freshwater photos)

This is the time when cooler water temperatures induce all three of these Alabama Smith Lake (Impounded 1961) bass species to feed and fatten up for the cold, winter months ahead. And they do!
Mid November shows water temperatures in the low to mid 60's. As December rolls around even cooler water temps in the low 50's will still display plenty of schooling bass activity.
This may call for the use of lures fished from top to bottom. So have several rods rigged and ready, for these bass that may erupt alongside your boat at any given moment.
Like said, "be rigged and ready. For they do not stay on top very long!"
Besides the use of topwater lures bass anglers can use spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jerk baits, Alabama Rigs, swim baits and other mid water column lures.

Or go deeper with jigging spoons, worms, tube baits, finesse lures, hair jigs or jig combos.
Or, you can always call on Reeds Guide Service...first! Guiding on Smith Lake and other Alabama lakes for over 40 years! "Alabama's oldest, professional - bass fishing only - guide service, using lures only, no live bait!
