Smith Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

Smith Lake
October 24th, 2012
While the fish have started to move, it doesn't seem like there in a hurry to go anywhere fast. I've been fish between the Dam and Coon Creek most of the week, while I have been spending a little time in Rock Creek. In the early morning most of the fish are still at depths between 26-40 feet. As the day goes on I'm targeting fish in depths between 30-60 feet. While live bait is still your best option, I've used just about every lure I've got to catch fish consistently. Down rigged spoons and umbrella rigs have payed off pretty good over the past week. The topwater bite is picking up, as I've been catching some nice spots and some average stripers. Just to remind everybody the tournaments only a couple weeks away, so be sure to checkout my website for all the details. We are expecting a pretty good turnout, so I hope to see your there. Even if you don't fish that much, come join us at Speegle's Marina at 1p.m. to watch the weigh in and see some of the big stripers Smith Lake has to offer. Also make sure to checkout my website later this week as a local artist will have so of his work up on my site. He specializes in fish art, so hopefully you will enjoy it.
