Smith Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

Smith Lake
February 28th, 2012
I hit the water just after midnight on Tuesday. I had a trip at 6:30 a.m., so I figured i'd do a little night fishing before hand. Last night was the best night fishing trip this year, by far. The first four lights I went to had 30-40 stripers swimming through the light. I rotated between those lights till 3:00 a.m., when I decided i'd caught enough and needed a little sleep before the morning. I caught every fish on one bait, but you could have probably thrown anything because they were feeding. I used a 1/2oz. bucktail jig with a 4 1/2" swimbait.
As for the morning bite, it was slow! If I had not fished earlier I would have questioned what's going on with the stripers today. While the bite has been good from 6:30a.m.-11:00a.m, it seem like most feed all night long. There's not much to say about the morning bite, other than we caught a couple fish and I add another on the way back to my truck. The real action was in the dark, while we've had good nights under the lights in the past couple of weeks. Nothing comes close to last night and the action they provided. I'll be fishing more nights as the stripers are showing up more steady around the lights. I put together a couple pictures and video clips from fishing last night. Please forgive the camera work, as I was by myself last night. It should be on my website by lunch time on feb. 29th.
So if you interested in fishing Smith Lake, give me a call or email.
