Saturday Night On Smith Lake

Smith Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

Mike Walker on Smith Lake

I had a return client Saturday night. He was running a little late, so we met at Misty Harbor. From there we made the quick run to Ryan Creek. We hooked up on our first two passes with the biggest fish weighing about 10 lb. After catching a few more small ones, we decided to move. All the fish we caught were in 30 to 45 feet of water. Bucktail spinners in white or white/chart. were the best colors. As we pulled up to our last spot with about 20 minutes of light left. We made several passes before hooking up with a 7 lb. stripe. By the time we boated the fish and got everything straightened out, dark was upon us. We spent the last two hours whacking crappie. About one out of every three lights had active crappie swirling through. It took use about ten minutes to find out what bait they wanted and how they wanted it. But once we did, it was game on. They were mostly average size crappie with a couple big ones. Needless to say they fit in his cooler just fine. I usually try to stay off the lake on the weekends when I can. But Saturday night there was only a couple boats out and most of the time we saw nobody. We never saw anybody on there dock either, which means we fished every light. Couldn't have ask for a better Saturday night on the lake. Ok, maybe a bigger fish would have made it better.
