Smith Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

May 25th, 2011
Smith lake
Water level- 508.4
Water temp. 75
Had my first night trip of the year. I meet up with Todd and James at Hames marina. We launched at 4pm and headed out, they where interested in just getting on the water and catching some fish. It didn't matter what kind they just wanted action. So we started off throwing shakey heads to points and picked up a couple of spots. Then we changed up and started throwing crankbaits and scroungers. We caught a couple more spots but still no fish over 2 pounds. Around 6:30 we threw topwater baits till dark and caught 5-6 fish with none over 2 1/2 pounds. At dark we fished the lights for stripe and crappie. We boated over twenty crappie and a few stripe, again no big ones. We did boat our biggest bass off the lights, a 3 lb spotted bass. All in all it was a good day. We had to work for every fish, today was good but not great fishing. Ok numbers for the weather but no size

Smith Lake Fishing Forecast:

With Memorial day weekend here I will be fishing in the early morning and at night. I have clients coming into town on friday so I will be on the water this weekend. Be safe and watch out for the crazy boaters.
Also for everybody that knows me, I have been a big fan of rainbow flip flops for years. I have always had there leather flip flops but a friend just give me a par of there hemp flip flops. He said they are water friendly, we will see. I'll keep you up to date how they hold up. I am really tuff on flip flops and have yet to find any other leather footwear that can compare. Hope these are as tuff.
Target Species:

Bass, Crappie, and Stripers
