It was a pretty good weekend, but my Sunday trip almost didn't happen. At 3 am I was sitting on the dock at Ryan Creek Marina, waiting for my trip to arrive. Around 3:15 I got a call from one of the people in the group. The guy who set up the trip was a no show, but the other three people still wanted to go. The guy that didn't show had them meet on some back road and there gps was not working. Needless to say, the next 2 hours were spent trying to get them to the marina. Let's just say, by the time they finally made it. We both were frustrated with how the morning started. After getting on the boat things cheered up. We missed the bite before sunrise but made the most of it. The mission was to catch some stripers for his ten year old son. We did that and had fun while doing it. We fished mostly around Coon Creek and Spring Branch, picking up fish at both areas. With kids even your average striped bass is a big one. I still haven't received a call from the guy who didn't show. I didn't make him send a deposit because the trip was only a couple days away. I would have got burned if the other people didn't have my number. It's guys like that who made me require a deposit in the first place. It cost me around $100 in expenses a trip. No shows hurt bad and take food from my table. Thank goodness there's not to many of them.
So for the fishing, I expect the early morning bite to continue to be the best. With the bigger fish biting before sunrise. With smaller fish on the average once the sun comes up. Live bait continues to produce our best fish. So if your interested in fishing Smith Lake give me a call.

Big bite at night, live shad have been key for keeping the bite active. We've boated several fish in the 15-24 pound range the last couple nights. As for last night, the fish were active from 1am - 8 am. I think the morning bite was a little slower because more fish ate throughout the night. A big moon and clear sky's, plus cooler temp lead to a more active night bite. High riding umbrella rigs continue to catch numbers as doubles on umbrella rigs have happen several times over the past couple days. Checkout my website as I'll have plenty of pictures up over the weekend. I am about to fall asleep writing this, so I hope there's not to many mistakes. I have two open dates next week, before I head out of town on June 11th. Don't forget I am guaranteeing fish right now. So if your interested in fishing Smith Lake give me call.
