Smith Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

Smith Lake
June 18th, 2012
I fished Friday evening thur Sunday morning, while getting 5 hours of sleep during that time. Needless to say, when I got home Sunday I spent the rest of the day sleeping. Friday night we caught 6 fish with two over 10 pounds and several small fish. My Saturday morning trip started a little late. We got started around 6 am and fished till 10:30 am. We caught fish ranging from 5 - 11 pounds. I feel that once the sun comes up the chance for bigger fish slims down. My night trip Saturday started just before 9 pm, it was a grind. We caught a couple smaller fish, but no big ones and no numbers. On Sunday morning we got several good bites early and ended up with a 13 lb.er as the biggest fish. The one thing I can tell you is have a wide variety of baits. On Friday night spoons were the ticket, Saturday morning it was umbrella rigs and live bait, Saturday night it was the spoons again, and Sunday morning it was live bait and one off a umbrella. I am fishing areas as far north as Mallard Point and down to Spring Branch. Getting on the water around 4 am is still your best chance at catching big fish. I will have pictures up around noon and will be on the water most of this week.
So if your interested in fishing Smith Lake, give me a call or email. Also don't forget I tie custom umbrella rigs that are proven on Smith Lake. Call me if you have any questions as I have several different weights, for different depths.
