Guided Steelhead Fishing in British Columbia Canada

The photo of the week shows me with a beautiful winter Kalum River wild Steelhead. The photo was taken quite a few years ago (when my beard wasn’t so grey). Oh…how time flies. The photo was taken by my good friend Mark Anthony Krupa. He is the man with the 5 star fishing show Hooked with Mark Krupa http://www.hookedtv.com

Noel Gyger - WEEKLY FISHING REPORT dated January 20 – January 27, 2008

Dear Fishing Friends:

SUMMARY: It has been very cold all week. I don’t think the day time air temperature went above freezing once. Too cold for me to go fishing but I think some young folks are still going. All of our local rivers are extremely low and clean. With these conditions the angler must be stealthy as the fish are spooked. Try using small terminal tackle and only fish the deep water. I have a report from the Kitimat River of two Steelhead landed on January 25.

The Quality Water Strategy process has started in the Skeena region. The strategy is a provincial initiative that involves a partnership between commercial guides, resident angler and the Ministry of Environment, designed to maintain and enhance British Columbia’s world-class fisheries.

The strategy is a community engagement process, utilizing input from provincial, regional and local recreation angling sectors to identify waters of concern and develop new or revised regulation.

The end product on the engagement process will be an AMP (Angling Management Plan) on Skeena’s 11 wild Steelhead Rivers that will recommend revisions to current sport fishing regulations as they pertain to angler-use.

NOTICE As you may know I have a webpage dedicated to this strategy. Quality Water Strategy Cast to this page often http://www.noelgyger.ca as many updates will be posted there.

Thank you to those who have sent me their vote for best 2007 fishing Photo of the Week. Keep those votes coming. It is wonderful to hear from you. I will let you know at the end of January which one received the most votes. Cast here to view the photos again www.noelgyger.ca VOTE NOW!

LIST OF “New” ITEMS POSTED ON THE WEBSITE THIS WEEK:

- Jan 20/08 Conservation http://www.noelgyger.ca

- Jan 22/08 available dates for spring Steelhead at Nicholas Dean Lodge Special Guided Trips http://www.noelgyger.ca

- Jan 25/08 a link to the 2008 Kermodei Tourism Guide to Terrace and Region News Bulletin http://www.noelgyger.ca

NOW BOOKING FOR 2008 Let me know if I can be of service to book you with the "best" fishing guide and/or fishing lodges. There are NO extra charges to book through me, just a lot of free information and advice from a person with years and years of fishing and fish guiding experience. It is like hiring two guides for the price of one. I will promptly answer your questions and concerns. Cast here http://noelgyger.ca to read more of what I have to offer.

Many people book three trips per year to our area; one trip in the spring (March-April-May), one trip in the summer (June-July-August) and one trip in the fall (September-October-November). They love having the same guide but fishing for different fish in different areas.

Be sure to check out my website at www.noelgyger.ca for news bulletins, mid week fishing updates, conservation, my history, quality waters strategy, special guided fishing trips, video clips, scenic river photos, wildlife photos and others, comments from past guests, informational articles, archived fishing reports from 1996 through 2002 and a sportfishing market place. I hope it meets with your entire satisfaction.

Fishing Report from: Nicholas Dean Lodge for the Week of January 20 to January 26, 2008

The fish of winter can be stunning!

The weather has been taking a turn for the worse here in Terrace, at least from a fishing point of view! Last weekend, a few of the guides here at the lodge experienced good fishing on a local Skeena River tributary for a typical winter’s day, hooking into 4 Steelhead, landing two, along with several very nice Coastal Cutthroat Trout. However, the weekend has seen a lot of snowfall and accumulation on the ground, and temperatures have dropped as low as – 10 C. The forecast for next week is for even colder weather, which will likely freeze a lot of the rivers over.

Despite all this, it’s simply nice to get out fishing when you can and you must take the bad with the good. I suppose it’s the thrill of the chase that makes Steelhead fishing so challenging, and at the same time, rewarding! After the cold spell next week, it is forecast to be warmer weather, so fishing conditions should be a little better then…

This is also a great time to book a trip with us if you are thinking of coming to the Skeena region in 2008. There are still several prime time spaces available, starting with our Spring Steelhead season, Trophy Chinooks and Fall Steelhead and Coho. Be sure to contact Noel today for your rod-bending, reel-screaming trip of a lifetime…

Until next week, tight lines and screaming reels,

Chad Black

CURRENT REPORT and summary for Central Coast/North Van Island Wilderness Rivers:

Fishing Report from: Nimmo Bay Resort

Here is an overview of Nimmo Bay. Our guests and employees truly do have a wonderful environment in which to spend their valuable time. There are many adventures available here and Fishing is just one of many.

Our Heli-Fishing and Heli-Ventures programs provide guests with a multitude of wilderness opportunities. You can catch Steelhead, Salmon and trout as well as go kayaking, rafting, beachcombing, whale watching and heli-hiking.

How many people have stood on a 10,000 year old glacier and used some if its ice to cool their single malt scotch?

Who has stood almost face to face with Grizzly bears as you both compete for wild pacific salmon in a pristine river?

Who has heard the cry of an eagle overhead as he watches you from his lofty perch in a misted spruce top?

We are a part of the last frontier of wilderness adventure. The coast of BC and the Mountains and rivers therein, are home to the charismatic mega fauna we have come to know and love from books and movies, but here they are very real and provide you with a first hand look at their lifestyle.

From the fish you catch to the wildlife and habitat your experience, Nimmo Bay is the real McCoy. Give Noel a call and join us for the time of your life.

Note from Noel: This year in 2007, out of 10 Heli fishing and tour resorts and lodges from around the world, Nimmo Bay Resort was voted number one by the prestigious, New York based Forbes Traveler magazine. Congratulations Craig, Deborah and staff.
