Ucluelet - Saltwater Fishing Report

Salmon fishing continues to roll in some nice fish. We aren't seeing as many salmon over 30 lbs this year as I would have liked, but we are getting lots in the 15-25 lb range. These Chinook are mostly bright and are producing some great fights (clients are complaining of sore arms!) Chinook (King) salmon hotspots are continually moving around this year and you have to be "in the know" for the latest spot. We have been getting some good action on South bank, Inside Lighthouse bank, Southwest Corner and Big Bank. A good bet if you want Chinook over 20 lbs would be fishing Southwest corner or the Starfish. The commercial fleet just finished a 3 day opening and reported getting some nice fish in the Southwest Corner area from 20-70 feet down. While fishing Southwest corner, use plugs or large Tomic spoons if you are marking Pilchards. Sometimes if fishing is slow on larger lures, you can always go back to fishing 4-5 inch spoons. Pearl spoons are very consistent, so if you don't know what to put down, that is a good bet.
The halibut have been in a few different spots and we have been finding a few places closer in which has been nice. Big Bank is the most consistent and trolling is the easiest there right now.
