Fly Fishing for Trout in Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

Capt. Scott Taylor
July 19, 2011
Pagosa Springs - Freshwater Fishing Report

The fishing has been very good on all of our local streams. We had two days last week that were tough with some high water on a few of the streams and the San Juan River. Even with the high water we did find some streams that were not affected by the much needed rain. It looks like we are approaching the Monsoon Season (afternoon rains). This generally does not affect our fishing, but if you were out hiking Pagosa Peak, you would want to plan that hike early in the day. It's not the rain, but the thunderstorms you have to be aware of.

We have all been very busy, and it is tough to keep up with reports this time of year. It is hopper dropper time. That makes it easy.

William Hall with his biggest catch of his life!

Normally our reports include more info on the fishing, but I thought this might be a good time to thank the guides for all of their hard work, and pass on a thank you email that I just received.

THANKS GUY'S!!!!!

Scott,

Just a quick email to send a hearty "Thanks" to High Country Fishing Charters! My daughter called you late in the afternoon on Thursday, June 30.... We had driven up to Pagosa Springs just to have a "look around" and Lauren commented, "Wouldn't it be fun to learn to fly fish while we're here?" we called and you answered! My husband and I were pleasantly surprised to learn that you were even "entertain" the thought of such a late booking, but you all were great!
Jeff called us and we set a time to meet the next day. He was great, we brought with us nothing but our ignorance and a sandwich and he supplied everything else! The experience as great! Jeff patiently worked with each of us and very quickly we were casting with confidence. It was beautiful country, a good day to be on the river and Jeff was so kind to be so dedicated to Lauren's successful catch.... and by the afternoon, Success!!
