First week of July fishing with the Kingfisher

Capt. Mark Anderson
July 9, 2008
Long Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Friday the 4th started out the weekend with a bang. The Robert Brazilli group had bass hitting the whole trip. The hickory shad finally showed up in big numbers for Robert and we filled the livewell in no time. Stripers from 35" to 45" readily took our live bait offerings and the group limited out easily. Many more were sent back to be caught again another day.

Sunday the 6th was a mirror image of the 4th. Hickory shad were everywhere in the river as well as big schools of bunker. The group slammed bass in the same range onlive shad with the biggest going 45" and 40 lbs. After limiting out in a few hours they finished up with fluke which continues to be short fish with the occassional keeper fluke over 20" coming aboard.

Tuesday the 8th was also a great day for the Nixon group. They hit big bass to 42" right off the bat until the tide went slack and the fish turned off. They finished up the trip having fun with hard fighting 8 to 10 pound blues.

With the arrival of big schools of Hickory Shad and Bunker in the Mystic River schools of bass in the 35" to 45" range have set up shop on many of the local reefs in the eastern end of the sound. Check out our site at www.charterfishingconnecticut.com to see videos of last July's action.
