Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

We fished on Monday with Linda Gilmore of Norwalk, who was entertaining her mother and dad, Judith and Ron Kahofer of Rome NY, and her aunt, Eileen Bastin of London, England. We started off working the Norwalk Islands, bringing in more than a dozen striped bass on bucktails and sandworms. We then made our way up the Norwalk River, where we found bluefish up to five pounds. Looking for some porgy action (before the season closes for commercial fishermen on October 15), we moved towards Darien and did very well, boating more than 40 and keeping 10 for the dinner table. Although our elder passengers didn't have too much prior experience, they did very well and were extremely enthusiastic about their day on Long Island Sound.
On Saturday we had Roger Eustance of Wilton--returning for his annual trip with his two children, Abby and Ryan--and his nephew, Erin Koen of New York City. Five minutes from our dock we were into a steady pick of schoolie bass. We then made our way out to 28C and jigged up bluefish 4-6 pounds. The day ended with non-stop action with porgies--keeping 10 for the table.
