Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Sunday was a father-and-son event, with three dads and their boys celebrating the 9th birthday of Jordan Berger. Along were Jordan's dad, Scott Berger--and Jack Boyle and son, Joey--and Stefan Mykityuk and son, Zachary--all from Armonk NY. The weather couldn't have been better as we left the dock early in the morning, and all aboard had a great time--bringing in striped bass (including one keeper and one "almost" keeper) as well as bluefish in the 3-5 pound range. A backyard birthday barbecue, featuring fresh striped bass filet, was planned for the afternoon.
On Tuesday we had one passenger, Miles Slater, a resident of Bedford NY. We left the dock around 12:00 noon and fished the Norwalk Islands for most of the trip--first trying some plugging, to no avail--and then chunking with cut bunker. The weather couldn't have been better--warm, sunny, no wind--and our passenger had a great time bringing in seven striped bass, including four keepers, and dropping another four. Slater kept two fish--one about 14 pounds and the other about 17.
Thursday we sailed in the mid-afternoon with loyal client, Robert Remin of White Plains, who brought along his brother-in-law and nephew, Lawrence Askowitz and Gideon Askowitz of Long Island. The weather couldn't have been better, and we began the trip off of the Norwalk Islands in pursuit of large striped bass (that Remin's been dreaming about catching all winter long.) It didn't take long for us to boat some nice stripers, with the largest coming in at 18 pounds--caught on bunker chunks. As the tide was changing we rigged our tackle for bluefish and headed towards the middle of the Sound, where we found acres of blues feeding on the surface. Our party had 2.5 hours of solid light-tackle action with the bluefish, all in the 5-8 pound range. Everyone went home happy.
Target Species:

BLUEFISH AND STRIPED BASS
