Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Last Sunday, with temps in the 40's and NE winds 15-25, we had to stay close to shore, but our passengers, Bill Leek of Norwalk--along with his son, Art, visiting from Colorado--weren't deterred by the weather. They enjoyed bucktailing schoolie striped bass in the Saugatuck River, but these were the only fish on the menu for the whole trip.
We sailed on Friday with "My Bonnie" first-timers, Paul Couzelis of Norwalk and his brothers, Steve from Burlington VT, John from Dallas TX, and Bill from East Lyme MA. The Couzelis brothers have an annual reunion, and this year they opted for a fishing trip on Long Island Sound. Although they aren't very experienced anglers, they had a great day, starting with lots of schoolie bass around then Norwalk Islands, then having fun with 5 to 8-pound bluefish caught on jigs at 11B, and finishing up the day at the Obstruction Buoy, with more blues and striped bass on jigs. It was a very cold day, but bright sunshine and an absence of winds made for a great experience.
Reminder: Anyone wanting to get into the fall run should give us a call very soon. We plan to stay in the Connecticut waters until early November, and after we get "My Bonnie" settled in for her winter hiatus, we'll be heading down to Florida for four months of fishing on the Indian River and in the Sebastian Inlet. Now that temperatures have started to plummet, the Sunshine State is looking better every day.
