Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

July 4 was a scorcher–-close to 100 degrees throughout the whole trip. We went over to the Long Island side–-which seemed to be the only place for guaranteed action–and our six passengers enjoyed great action bringing in scores of small bluefish. Aboard were Robert Dyer of Darien and his sons, Teddy and Jake–and Joseph Lock of Alexandria VA, with his sons, Ryan and Joe Jr.
We fished in ungodly heat on Monday and Tuesday. Aboard Monday was Chuck Frydenborg of Norwalk and his four sons. Just as we found on Sunday, all the fish were on the Long Island side; and the family got their fill, along with some schoolie bass and porgies.
Tuesday we had Carl Bildner and his son, Marc-–along with their friend Richard Shapiro-–all from Stamford. The fish were much bigger for this trip-–around 10lbs.-–plus some nice-sized striper-–all caught on the other side of the Sound. The largest bass came in at 30 pounds.
On Friday morning we fished with Erik Rambusch of Rowayton, his brother, Len, and their friend, Ken. We found a small body of bluefish on the surface and boated only a couple before the action slowed, so we shifted gears and ran across the Sound, where we found tons of blues. We finished off the trip on the CT side with schoolie bass and porgies.
The afternoon trip was with Robert Remin of White Plains and his son, Daniel of West Hartford. We were dealing with midday sun and a slack tide, so the bluefish action was a bit slow. But as the day wore on, our party was able to bale porgies around Cockenoe, with keepers up to 15″.
The heat was blistering throughout both of Friday's trips.
