Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

On Saturday we sailed with Karl Correnti and his teenage daughter--and two other guests. We made our way into the middle of the Sound, chunking for bluefish, catching half a dozen up to 10 pounds, with a by-catch of porgies up to 14".
Tuesday's trip was with Gary Lattrell, golf course superintendent of Quaker Hills Country Club in Pawling, NY--returning with his wife, Ellen, after two trips earlier this month. We snagged some bunker and headed toward the middle of the Sound, where we had good action with eight blues up to 10 pounds (and lost about the same number!) Some porgies also came in--up to 1.5 pounds.
On Wednesday we had Wiltonites, Mark LaMonte--and his sons, Stefan and Andrew. After snagging some bunker in the harbor, we made our way out to one of the reefs in the middle of the Sound--and had non-stop action with large bluefish 6-12 pounds, as well as some porgies thrown in the mix. The family had their fill before the trip was scheduled to end, and they asked if we could head home so they could rest their arms. They took home a lot of filets for a barbecue and to share with friends.
Fishing over the reefs is really heating up, and we expect that the middle of L. I. Sound will be our headquarters until top-water action returns in September.
