Lots of Porgies, Some Blues and Stripers....

Capt. Sal Tardella

Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Autumn arrived a few days ago, and this week's weather was a mix of high and low temps–with almost every day including high winds. We sailed Saturday morning with Ted Inglesias of Westport and his father-in-law, Art Miller of Brooklyn NY. Wind velocities were 15-20 out of the northeast, with gusts up to 25mph, making conditions on the Sound far less than desirable. We tried some deep-water jigging, but our passengers were too uncomfortable with the wave action, so we moved closer to shore and the twosome raked in porgies, with a total of more than four dozen, but kept only 12 were for their dinner.

Our passengers on Sunday afternoon were Brian Anderson of Stamford and a visitor from Melbourne, Australia--Michael Horne. We left the dock at 2pm and had to deal with frequent showers and winds about 15-20mph. We started off jigging in the middle of the Sound, but we had no hook-ups. Our next move was towards the Norwalk shoreline, where we remained for the rest of the afternoon, catching bluefish up to 10 pounds and a keeper striped bass, along with a fluke that was released–plus some porgies.
