Good porgy and bluefish action; weakfish have arrived, too!

Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Trips have slowed down since Labor Day, but our last several outings were very productive. We fished a few days ago with our Danbury buddy Emilio (Amin) Pandolfi, who's a Class-A angler. While jigging in the middle of the Sound we brought in nice-sized blues and weakfish up to 7 lbs. We'd been getting small weakies for a few weeks, but the larger ones have now been showing up in the middle of L.I. Sound, which is a great sign, as they haven't been around our waters for many years.

We also went out with John Discala who was entertaining his father, Michael, both residents of Norwalk. They did very well, bringing in some keeper sea bass and porgies up to 14", after which we found bluefish on the surface, and they plugged up half a dozen. We finished off the busy day with a schoolie striper. Most of the fish were released--except for one sea bass, one porgy and five blues for the table.
