Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

We managed to squeeze in a couple of days of fishing amidst the seemingly endless weeks of rain. The water is still in the low 50's, but we traveled to the Long Island side of the Sound and did well with Bluefish (2-4 pounds), schoolie Bass, and a nice 7-pound Weakfish, using a Sassy Shad lure. The weakie was landed by 7-year-old Darnell Pittman of Danbury.
We saw fish being taken at 11B on chunks--Blues and Bass and an occasional Fluke. The bait of the day was fresh bunker, and we caught sight of large bunker schools off of Long Point and also off the Long Island Lighting platform.
There were lots of Bluefish swirls and one or two takers, but the fish are definitely not aggressive, probably because of the cold water. We should see some topwater action when temps rise.
Fluke are starting to come in strong around Port Jefferson and the Coast Guard station off Northport.
