Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Thomas DeCoene of Greenwich, currently living and working in Tokyo, spent a morning on the water with his son, Thiago. They enjoyed catching schoolie bass on a fly rod as well as bringing in blues up to 9 lbs and a 20-pound striped bass under a school of bunker at Green's Ledge.
Rick Bradt and associates from SoundView Technology in Stamford fished Todd's Point and The Cows. It was a so-so day, but they had fun boating bluefish 6-7 lbs and lost two stripers right at the boat.
Dev Clifford of Wilton and his four-year-old son had a super day, with the youngster having his first fishing experience and taking part in the catch of 7 bass up to 27", some blues, and a dozen porgies.
Several executives of the New Zealand Lamb Company, some of whom were visiting from Australia, worked around the Norwalk Islands, and despite the heavy boat traffic, they boated some school bass. We moved to the other side and found strong bluefish action at Northport.
Bill Murphy of Westport hosted his dad and a friend. The trio started off the morning working near Green's Ledge Light and Darien, where we found some school bass. We then made our way up to Southport, where we found bunker schools and brought in blues in the 8-10 lb range and bass up to 27".
Karen Klopp of Darien enjoyed her annual birthday trip aboard "My Bonnie"--this year with her husband and young daughter. It was a rainy morning with a few thunder bolts thrown in for excitement, and we had to leave some great bluefish action to take cover in Wilson Cove for a short time. While tied up around the sailboats, we hooked a large striper on a bunker chunk, but it broke off in the pilings. When the clouds passed we began to head home and hit another school of blues 8-9 lbs.
The Klopps have been "My Bonnie" regulars, even sailing with us occasionally in Sebastian, Florida.
Large bunker schools are now being seen everywhere, including Wilson Cove and Darien, Green's Ledge Light and Southport. There have been many reports of very large striped bass and blues being brought up under the bunker.
