Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report
Mark Haas of New York City and his party fished Wilson Cove and found large bluefish underneath the bunker. They live-lined the bunker and came in with blues up to 12 pounds.
Bruce LeFoure and two friends fished Southport, where we chunked up a nice mess of bluefish; they also did a good job with large porgies and took home a 36" striper.
Rick Dayhuff of Ridgefield had a great morning Friday. He began the day with a 34-inch keeper bass and five bluefish up to 13 pounds. Then we moved to Copps, where he plugged up a few more blues, using Al Gag surface poppers.
On Sunday morning Erik Morabito of Poughkeepsie and his friends had to deal with rain and wind, but they got a 33-inch striper, blues, sea bass and porgies.
Joe Pitts of Ridgefield brought along his son and friends on Sunday afternoon. We fished off a deep hole in Southport and scored with large bluefish up to 12 pounds and had non-stop porgy action, with a couple of sea bass mixed in.
Andrew Silfen and his son and three friends from Bedford NY caught a nice keeper striped bass in Wilson Point on Monday morning. Then they got porgies and sea bass off of Sherwood Island, and we finished off the morning with blues up to 13-1/2 pounds caught at Copps.
Charles and David Strain, artists from Hiebee, MO--staying overnight in Norwalk after exhibiting their bronze sculpture at the weekend art show at Greenwich's Bruce Museum--fished Long Island Sound for the first time. The brothers were very accomplished fishermen and they had a super afternoon, with seven bass up to 35", nine blues 6-14 pounds all caught on the surface--plus about 40 porgies, most of which were released. Up until this trip Charles' largest bluefish was 6 pounds, and David's largest bass was 26".
Columbus Day ended with phenomenal top-water action off of Cockenoe and Copps, with the blues ranging 9-13 pounds and the stripers in the mid-to-upper 30" class.
