Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Captain Sal Tardella reports that his sometimes-mate, Emilio Pandolfi of Danbury, went along with him for their first scouting trip of the season—and to help break in the boat’s new Yamaha 225HP 4-stroke engine. They worked around the Norwalk Islands, picking schoolie bass on bucktails and Sparkling Beetle lures, with black and chartreuse doing the job. Next they went to the Lilco stacks and found a few stripers close to shore, but they heard reports that the day before—on the dropping tide—lots of schoolies were caught at the same spot. They found some more of the same-sized fish around the Manresa plant, where there was a nice showing of bait—a good sign that the season will be bountiful. Water temperatures around the plant are around 60 degrees and 49-50 degrees mid-Sound, and, with the arrival of the merry month of May, it’s only a matter of time before the action heats up, as well. Tardella will be on the water again during the next few days, working towards the western side of the Sound, and there should be more news to report next week.
