Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's been a very hectic week that included three double-headers.
We started out last Wednesday morning with Dr. Alan Goldberg, who brought along Drs. Steve Eliot, Andrew Marcus, and John Tanzilli. We fished around the Norwalk Islands, where we only caught a few sand sharks and one sea robin. We moved across the Sound and found some bluefish west of the loading platform at Northport. They all had a ball with top-water plugging, catching 3-5 pound blues coming in on chrome Creek Chubs and Al Gags. I noticed some "funny water" away from the boat and told the boys to cast in that direction. The first shot produced a 24-inch striped bass, and then another striper hit--and it took Marcus 15 minutes to bring in the 40-inch, 22-pound striper on 10-pound-test line. Further casts produced a 29-inch bass for Goldberg--his first keeper ever.
In the afternoon Robert Remin of White Plains and some family members enjoyed a super experience--with Remin's brother-in-law boating a 31-inch striper--among 16 bass caught during the trip.
The next morning we sailed with Virginia Kamsky of Wilson Point and her 6-year-old son, Michael, a "My Bonnie" veteran. Mother and son had a fun day, casting into schools of blues on top--3-5 pounds. Young Michael is a great little fisherman. His mom is a well-know international businesswoman, dealing with the government of China.
The afternoon trip included Dr. Ed Tracy of Norwalk, his son, Scott--and a family friend. It was a so-so event, with nine bass up to 24".
On the following morning Mark DeCruccio of Ridgefield entertained some colleagues, Bill Hughes of Fairfield, and Mark Besnier of Cos Cob. The trio had a great time plugging around the Islands, with the boys bringing in 11 bass up to 18 pounds--again all on 10-pound test tackle.
In the afternoon 11-year-old Allison Smith of Norwalk treated her father, Doug, to a Father's Day fishing trip. They boated 15 schoolie bass on bucktails, but their trip was somewhat shortened by threatening thunderstorms.
Christine Breck of Darien entertained some friends, Peggy and Shiu (both novice fishermen.) Although Christine has lots of experience on the water--including offshore angling--her friends had to take some quick lessons on how to cast and reel, but they tallied 16 school-size bass around Westport and Southport. The largest fish was 26".
Joe Chenoweth of Shelton and his friend, Rob Osborn of South Carolina, had their first trip aboard "My Bonnie." They had a good morning, catching nine bass and one blue, coming in at 9 pounds, all caught on bucktails.
A lot of striped bass are around--from Sunken Island to Long Neck Point, and with the influx of bunker, we expect the action to get even better--especially with the arrival of lunker-sized blues after the bunker.
