Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Chris Simmons of Larchmont and his father visiting from Rochester, and two brothers and a nephew--Connecticut residents, fished aboard “My Bonnie” for the first time. We started off at Long Neck Point, where we caught some keeper porgies. Then when the tide turned we moved to 28C, where they caught large bluefish up to 10 pounds and another nice mess of porgies. All the fish were filleted and taken up for a family barbecue.
Victor Gaines of Lagrangeville, New York, and his party of four had a great afternoon at 28C, where they brought in bluefish up to 12 pounds plus more than a dozen porgies, with nine keepers in the lot.
Gary Latrelle of Duchess County, a golf course superintendent, took out his wife and another couple for their first trip on “My Bonnie”. We found large bluefish attacking peanut bunker off of Green’s Ledge Light. All aboard were skilled at casting and brought in several fish on Creek Chub poppers. We then moved west toward Darien, where porgies were waiting to be caught. Everyone was arm-weary when we pulled into the dock at the end of the trip.
James Conzelman III of New York City took his 6-year-old son, Nicholas, out for their first trip with us. It was a wonderful trip; we found a bunker school in Wilson Cove within minutes of leaving our dock. Father and son caught blues in the 9-12 pound class using light tackle with bunker chunks as well as a fly rod. These blues were the largest they’ve ever caught. We then moved into the Islands and found a sizeable pocket of large porgies—all keepers—but they saved only five for their dinner table.
