Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week was so-so, mostly because of weather conditions.
Our first excursion, with Tom Dixon of Rowayton on his second trip with "My Bonnie" was a fantastic morning of fishing from the moment we left our dock. We found schools of large bluefish at Wilson Cove, bringing in blues weighing up to 15 pounds on bunker chunks. Dixon wanted to change over to light tackle so we blind-casted further down the cove, where we were rewarded with striped bass and blues on Creek Chub poppers. The stripers came in up to 24".
Saturday was wet and very windy--winds up to 35 mph, which prevented us from reaching our favorite spots. We cut the trip short, especially because the weather was too severe forsix-year-old Nicky Conzelman, Nicky and his father Jim Conzelman of Westport and NYC, had fished with us for the first time just a couple of weeks ago, when they slammed the fish big-time. On this ill-fated trip we couldn't make one hook-up. That's sports fishing!
We're expecting good angling over the next few weeks as the fish get into migration mode.
For those interested, you're invited to check out the November issue of The Saltwater Sportsman. George Poveromo wrote a very flattering article about "My Bonnie Charters", and you might enjoy reading it.
