Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Steve Islano of Pleasantville hired me to take out his 30-foot Pursuit and show him around the Sound and give him some tips. We headed out towards 28C and found a deep hole filled with nice blues and a few bass mixed in. The blues ranged from 8-12 pounds. It was a special treat for Islano who had sailed the day before with friends and had nothing to show for their efforts.
Jim Conzulman III took his third trip with us and had an extraordinary day, starting off at Compo Beach, where we found birds working a school of blues. We jigged up fish 4-6 pounds and then made our way about 2 miles east of 28C. We again used our jigs and brought in blues up to 12 pounds. We tried the Obstruction Buoy next where we found larger blues up to 13 pounds.
On Sunday I went out with Captain Bill Wilcox of Wilton. It was balmy but bumpy on the sound, with winds 25-30 and temps in the 70's. The action was fantastic, starting at Frost Point and ending up at Southport, with a non-stop day of blues and striped bass, including three keeper stripers, one of which we kept to take to Pasta Fair in Norwalk for Monday night's dinner. (They do a great job with the bass, cooking it Calabrese style.)
The fishing is red hot right now, and if you're serious about catching large blues and striped bass, don't delay.
We'll be pulling "My Bonnie" out of the water around November 20, and then shoving off for Florida on November 27, where we'll be on the Indian River in Sebastian. Please watch these reports for our 2005 Florida phone number if you're going to be down that way this winter and want to fish with us in our bay boat.
