Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Amin "Emilio" Pandolfi and his brother, Sal, of Danbury sailed with us last week; we made our way to Sherwood Island and found birds on the surface. Everyone jigged up blues under those birds and then we headed for Sunken Island where we found even more birds, under which was a mix of blues and striped bass. The action was continuous, and the three of us were arm weary when we pulled into the dock.
On Sunday morning New Canaanite, Jim Tierney, brought along his two sons and his father-in-law for his second trip with us this season. Within five minutes of leaving our dock we were into bass breaking off of Peach Island. The young boys had a great time bringing in the stripers, using bucktail lures, and pop and grandpa had a ball, as well. We then moved to Westport off of Compo Beach, where we marked some fish on the recorder. Everyone jigged up blues between 5-7 pounds. We then spotted a lot of birds working the surface off of Cockenoe. There were blues 7-10 pounds below, and we followed them all the way to Peck's Ledge Light, with non-stop action for the entire trip.
In the afternoon we had Michael Gray of Canfield Island and his friend, Norman, for their first trip aboard "My Bonnie." Again, it was a banner day. We headed west, which was a good decision, as we found large schools of striped bass off of Fish Island. We followed them all afternoon down to Long Neck Point, finishing off the trip with the fish still hitting, but the water was rough and the skies very dark, and everyone had had enough action for one day.
Joe Cimino and Jason Monet, proprietors of the Partners' Salon & Spa in Greenwich, celebrated Joe's birthday with a wonderful trip on Monday-- again with constant action from 7:05am--with bass breaking off of Tavern Island all the way down to Long Neck Point. They hooked 88 fish (84 stripers and four blues). All were released except for two of the blues, which they planned to cook up for a birthday dinner, using some of our favorite recipes.
The fishing is sensational right now, but it's cold and often windy at this point in the season. You've got to dress in layers of clothing to keep warm and dry, Lots of action, and lots of sore muscles for all involved. It's worth it!
We'll be pulling "My Bonnie" out of the water around November 20, depending on the weather, and then shoving off for Florida on November 27, where we'll be on the Indian River in Sebastian. Please watch these reports for our 2005 Florida phone number if you're going to be down that way this winter and want to fish with us in our bay boat.
