Report for Long Island Sound

Capt. Sal Tardella
June 7, 2005
Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Randall Seymour of Greenwich and three friends fished with us early in the week. We did well with striped bass, fishing outside Cockenoe Reef, using bucktails and sandworms. One of Seymour's guests was a fellow from Michigan; this was his first experience on Long Island Sound, and he boated fish up to 26".

Scott Howard of Westport had his first trip of the season, bringing along his 5-year-old son, Andrew. We fished in the middle of the Sound, three miles off "the hospital" and blindcasted up more than a dozen blues, 3-6 pounds. The hot lure for the day was a 3/4 ounce chrome Gag's Grabber popper.

Larger bass are now being taken out of the Norwalk Islands, and we're seeing many schools of bunker off of Green's Ledge lighthouse.

Water temps are up to 67-69 degrees, which is what we've been waiting for. The season has finally begun!
