Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had a corporate group with three boats last week, headed by Richard Gregory, Sr. VP of Global Markets Americas. He hosted nine German businessmen from Munich who’ve never fished before. We picked up the large party at the Rowayton Yacht Club, fighting very rough water (4-5 foot waves) and were fortunate to find a school of bluefish around Long Neck Point shortly after we got underway. Everyone loaded up on bluefish from four to nine pounds, all caught on topwater poppers.
Saturday morning was also challenging, weather wise, but Norwalkers, Ernest Todd and his young son, Matt, got into some nice fish feeding on peanut bunker off of Green’s Ledge Light. They caught blues 3-5 pounds, after which we made our way to Westport, where an active school of striped bass provided more entertainment for father and son, with Matt scoring on his first striper ever.
Ben and Valerie Brentano of Putnam County brought along another couple for their first trip with us. The weather was chilly, rainy, and the waters were rough, but they had a great time reeling in striped bass up to 15 pounds, as well as bluefish and porgies.
The fishing is excellent—-with the arrival of bonito and albacore in several local areas. The current lure of choice is a Deadly Dick or a half-ounce diamond jig.
