Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

On Wednesday afternoon we had two first-timers aboard. Julian Garcia of Ridgefield entertained a friend visiting from New Mexico, and the two of them had a great experience bringing in 20 striped bass up to 26”, one fluke, and some unexpected porgies caught on bucktail while fishing for the stripers.
Thursday morning had another new twosome. Father and son Westonites, Dr. Thomas and little Nick DiBartholomeo, spent four hours catching striped bass while plugging around the Westport Islands and Cockenoe—a total of 22 up to 25”. They also caught some bluefish on the surface near Sprite Island.
The afternoon charter was a corporate affair hosted by Rick Bradt of Jefferies & Company, out of Greenwich. It was a late start for the busy executives, and we didn’t leave the dock until 5:45pm. However, the group of five caught bluefish up to 10 pounds and striped bass up to 27” off of Todd’s Point, using bunker chunks. The trip was a short one—only two hours—as everyone had to get back to a business/dinner meeting.
Robert Remin of White Plains—a “My Bonnie” regular—entertained his brother-in-law, Lawrence Askowitz, and niece and nephew, Tali, 8, and Joshua, 6--also from Westchester NY. Everyone caught fish—totaling 22 striped bass up to 27.5”— plus blues in the 4-5 pound class.
The fishing’s been very productive in the past week; and large porgies have been showing up as a by-catch while fishing for bass and blues. Unfortunately, we had a few cancellations because of early-morning thunderstorms and threatening weather over the weekend.
