Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Friday’s trip was with a “My Bonnie” regular, Derek Shapiro of Stamford, and two colleagues. The winds were high in the afternoon, with a few lightning strikes to add to the excitement. The threesome caught nine striped bass and a mess of porgies, with a few blues mixed in.
Saturday morning we sailed with Carl Correnti and three friends. They loaded up on porgies, including 19 keepers, as well as striped bass up to 27” and some bluefish. All the fish were caught using bunker chunks and worms.
Sunday we had a double header. In the morning Nunzio Masone, who recently moved to Connecticut from New Jersey, brought along his son, Andrew, as well as two other father and son pals. The six anglers had a great morning, bringing in bluefish up to 9 pounds caught on chunks as well as two dozen porgies, keeping 8 fish for the table. They finished off the trip catching striped bass—which none of them had ever done before.
Michael Hoover of Bronxville and his 10-year-old son Peter, were aboard for the afternoon. It was Peter’s first fishing experience, and they had a wonderful trip, jigging up nice-sized blues in mid-Sound and enjoying non-stop action with porgies—topped off by a respectable catch of schoolie bass, using bucktail and sandworms.
On Monday morning we hosted Chris Clements of Darien—with three of his Wall Street colleagues. The day started off with everyone catching a ton of porgies off of Darien, after which we caught schoolie bass around the Norwalk Islands, and finished off the day in the middle of the Sound, jigging up blues up to 10 pounds and a few more school-sized bass.
