Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report
August has brought unexpectedly mild weather with temperatures staying below 85 almost every day.
We've been going out several times a week throughout the summer, with a bit more action this month (which always happens as folks realize that vacation time is quickly coming to an end.) Our catches have included very large porgies, keeper sea bass, fluke, striped bass and bluefish. The fish aren't concentrated in any one spot on any given day, so it's necessary to move around quite a bit in hopes of finding them--always aware that if we hit a hot spot, it will probably dry up by the following day.
Fresh sand worms are the best bait, but they've been in short supply lately, which just adds to the challenge.
As always, the big stripers are being caught shortly after dawn, but most charter clients aren't early risers, and we do what we must to keep their lines tight no matter what time we leave and return to our dock.
