Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Friday's weather was perfect, and we left the dock at 12:15 with Marc Pfefferle, Brent Harppard, Armand Vomoleale and Bill Roche. The beginning of the trip was slow, but we found some porgies around the Norwalk Islands. We then worked out way eastward and scored with schoolie bass up to 25" and bluefish up to 10 pounds.
We sailed midmorning on Thursday with Derek Shapiro of Greenwich and a co-worker, Peter, of Stamford. The winds were high, and the water was a bit rough, so we started out working inside the islands-catching some nice porgies up to 14″. We then went looking for some bass and blues and worked our way towards Westport. We found schoolie bass up to 25″ and two blues 8 and 9 pounds apiece-all caught on bucktails. All in all, considering the weather, we did very well, and our passengers had a good day.
Our Sunday morning passengers were Matias Ortuno of Wilton–a native of Argentina—entertaining three guests from Morocco: brothers, Thami and Simo Alami, and their friend, Abde Abou. We began the day at 10am catching porgies up to 14″; then we moved eastward and marked some bait in deep water. I instructed the four anglers to blind cast in a specified direction, and everyone brought in bluefish for about 25 minutes. Continuing on an easterly path we found a large school of blues on the surface-along with some short fluke. The trip ended with a catch of schoolie bass up to 25″.
