Summertime, and the Fishes are Fickle....

Capt. Sal Tardella
June 21, 2008
Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

On Monday morning we were part of a two-boat trip with Capt. Roger Gendron out of Saugatuck. We had a party of three aboard--competing with another trio fishing aboard Gendron's vessel. Our boat was high hook in all categories--largest fish, most fish, and most species caught! Among the catch were many blues and a keeper bass, with some of the fish being taken home for an evening barbecue for everyone. It was a lot of fun for all concerned.

Friday's trip was with "My Bonnie" regular, Marc Pfefferle of Carl Marx Associates--and three of his guests. We had a slow start, but after searching for a while we found bluefish and striped bass off of Compo Beach and then had non-stop action for the rest of the charter.

On Saturday we had yet another slow start...with close to two hours passing before we found the fish in Westport off of Burying Hill. Aboard were four newcomers, including John Vanderstrict of New Canaan, James Foley of South Salem NY, and brothers Corbin and "Pumpy" Woodhall of Pound Ridge NY. Although the four buddies had to wait a bit before getting into heavy action, nobody complained, and they took home lots of filets for an evening barbecue.

It seems that there's not too much consistency right now, and we've been spending time and fuel to find bodies of fish that are moving around to different spots with each new day. As we move from place to place we see tons of sand eels, but the predators aren't as omnipresent as the bait.
