Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Wednesday's trip was with Peter Ackerman of New Rochelle NY and his daughter, Erika, and Peter's brother, Larry Ackerman of Westport. We spent the day fishing in deep water, where we had steady action with large blues up to 11 pounds and some nice porgies.
On Thursday we had Richard Woods of PA, with his son, Richard Jr. of Rochester NY--for their annual "My Bonnie" fishing trip. We started out around the Norwalk Islands, where things were a bit slow; so we moved towards Westport, where we found schoolie bass up to 24". We then moved into the middle of the Sound and did some chunking--coming up with nice blues up to 9 pounds and a few porgies--with one measuring 14".
Saturday we sailed with Derek Shapiro of Greenwich, and his father, Sidney--a resident of Brooklyn. They had a wonderful day, pulling in bluefish from 5-11 pounds off of 28C, as well as some nice porgies.
Monday's trip was with Gary Lattrell, Golf Course Superintendent at in Quaker Hills Country Club in Pawling, NY--returning for his 4th trip this season. We found great action just five minutes after leaving the dock--with bluefish under a large bunker school off of Wilson Point. The blitz continued for two hours. We then moved to Westport and found more blues as well as some striped bass.
On Tuesday we had "My Bonnie" first-timer, Lou Owen of New Milford and his 13-year old son, Louis. We headed toward Southport, and got into a mix of large bluefish and schoolie bass. Louis caught his first striped bass ever--using a bucktail, tipped with a sandworm. The tally for the day was about 15 fish--all released except for a few bluefish taken home for the evening dinner.
