Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

On Sunday afternoon we fished with Chris Grillo of New Canaan, his two sons–Alexander and Austin, 7 and 9–-and his dad, George Grillo, from Massachusetts. We found bluefish almost immediately, and the family had a great experience plugging up blues 2-4 pounds.
Wednesday morning we sailed with "My Bonnie" regular, Gary Lattrell of Newburgh NY, who brought along his nephew, Tim Carroll-and Tim's friend, James-both from Pleasant Valley NY. As usual, we began our day around the Norwalk Islands, which had been quite productive for the past week, but today the action was very slow. We then moved across the Sound and fished the shoreline near the Nissaquogue River, where we found a steady catch of bluefish-with some large porgies and a few short fluke also on the hook.
We had a day off on Monday, but Tuesday morning we sailed with brothers, Mike and Jim McManus from North Salem NY. We started off around the Norwalk Islands and found bluefish hitting sand eels on the surface and had an hour and a half with top-water action, landing blues 4-6 pounds. We then moved easterly and worked around Southport and found bass on top, and the McManus boys brought in a lot of schoolies up to 24″.
