Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

We can't say the 2011 season has gotten off to an exciting start. Right now the only real action seems to be happening very early in the morning, with big stripers being caught on fresh bunker. We're hoping the situation is temporary, as we rarely can get our passengers to start their day with us before 8am.
This weekend the winds were pretty high and the water very choppy, so we couldn't fish the middle of the Sound or the Long Island side. We stayed fairly close to home-–going as far as The Cows, off of Stamford, and the action was so-so.
Saturday's party included Scott Nichols of Norwalk, and his buddies, Ryan, Isaac and Cory; everyone got into striped bass, using tube-and-worm. On Sunday we had Erik Myers of Pound Ridge NY, and his dad, as well as his son and daughter. The family brought in more than half a dozen stripers and dropped several more.
We tried many of our favorite spots on Saturday and again on Sunday, and as we moved from one area to another we didn't see any boats bringing in bluefish or porgies, which is really unusual for this time of year. Perhaps the local waters need more time to warm up after the long, cold winter.
