Black marlin steals my mate's shoe!

Had an awesome trip out today! We had 7 nice sailfish hooked up (released 5) and then at the end of the day while we were talking about how great of a day it was, we hit this really nice black marlin! Interesting story, the mates usually sit up top in the tower so they can watch the spread. When this Marlin came up, Mike ran down the stairs so fast his shoes came off and one went in the water. Mike wears those foam sandal shoes, so it started floating and went back in the spread. The Marlin was following a bird teaser we had set up and Mike starts throwing out the pitchbait, when Mike's shoe passes the Marlin and the Marlin nails the SHOE!! Well it took off with the shoe, and we had thought we had lost it (the marlin that is, the shoe was dead and we knew it), but thank God he came back and nailed a nice little islander we had in the middle! We are all laughing though, and tomorrow we are thinking about putting a hook in the other shoe and seeing what happens!

Quepos Fishing Forecast:

May-August 2012
Marlin and Tuna season is upon us! Here in the summer are when the big Marlin come out and we are so looking forward to some awesome billfish action! Starting in late April and lasting through August, Costa Rica is one of the best places in the world to snag a big Black Marlin. There should also be some Blue Marlin out as well, and it will be an exciting time! We should also start seeing the Yellow Fin Tuna schools as they make their way up from South America! This year we have tons of new tricks in addition to the old ones so we should have some really great numbers! We just added 8 large tuna tubes to the boat, allowing us to hold a ton of live bonita. Bonita are the favorite food of any billfish, so this will give us a huge advantage when we come across the floating debris! In order to find this debirs, we just installed a 25KW Furuno 6 foot Open Array Radar. This is the biggest, most powerful bird spotting tool available today! It gives us a constant map of all the boats within 10 miles, and more importantly, all the schools of birds within 6. Since the birds hang out on top of the Tuna, we can scan a 12 nautical mile circle as we troll for the Marlin, and the results are going to be awesome! We have some new FinNor spinning gear on board for throwing poppers at the Tuna as well, so we are going to have an awesome year! We also added a new trolling gear to the boat, so trolling live bait is going to be much more effective. The bottom bite also is super famous in May-August, so we expect to use our new Tuna Tubes with our Top of the line Furuno Sonar and start nailing the big Amberjacks and Cubera Snappers! Speaking of live bait, the inshore bite is going to be crazy! This new live bait trolling gear will allow us to troll our live bait inshore much more quietly and slowly, making for some awesome Roosterfish! We still have all our old tricks as well, with the high end Furuno Sonar, $10,000 dollars in sound deadening, downriggers, and full line of Penn, Shimano and Avet reels, just waiting for those big Roosterfish! May-August is going to be awesome!!!
