Anna Maria - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had great days of snook fishing in the last couple weeks with warmer bay temperatures. Larry and Carol Vifquan of Boston caught and released over two dozen with the largest at 32 inches. They were caught on large shiners. They also had a good run on trout in the 16-22 inch range. On the cooler days when I couldn't find shiners we fished the areas reefs and bridges. Sheepshead are showing up more each and their peak should be in February. Harold Poole and crew from Indiana had some nice catches of sheepshead, pompano, black drum, and flounder. We mainly used shrimp and pomano jigs. Bluefish and a few Spanish mackerel were following glass minnows in the same areas. School sized reds are around docks. The bigger reds are in very skinny water on the edges of Palma Sola and Sarasota bay. Tom Chaya
