Fishing Update

Capt. Tom Chaya
October 20, 2013
Anna Maria - Saltwater Fishing Report

The action was steady over the flats. We still have good schools of reds in just about every bay from Port Manatee to Sarasota bay.
Lots of slot fish in the 22-26 inch range are roaming mangrove shorelines. The water has cleared over the past few weeks and the fish are a bit more weary. Long casts with gold spoons were the best lure. Snook fishing was better in the afternoons and early evenings near the passes. Trout fishing should improve with cooler temperatures. Most trout are in the 14-16 inch range. Kingfish and Spanish mackerel move deeper than the previous weeks. We are hooking up in 40-60 feet. The next cold front should push more kings into our areas beaches. Plenty of sizzling action with blacktip sharks. Most were in the 20-50 pound range and were hitting on chunked baits.
