Kingfish Showing off Anna Maria

Capt. Tom Chaya
May 3, 2013
Anna Maria - Saltwater Fishing Report

Kingfish are showing in good numbers off Anna Maria. After an excellent spring on big schools of redfish, trout, and snook, we are now focusing on hot kingfish action. Their migration has been a bit later due to a very cool March. Most of the better kings are in 40 to 60 feet. Running chumlines or drifting over hard bottom with bait schools has been working well. Big spanish mackerel have been in the same areas. There have also been nice mangrove snapper and catch and release gag grouper moving in the chum line. Permit fishing has been sporadic. There has been a few caught in the 30 pound class on crabs over the offshore wrecks. The bay fishing has been steady with snook around the areas mangroves. Most of the big schools of reds have moved on but there is plenty of school sized fish around the oyster bars. Trout fishing is excellent over the deeper grass on good moving tides in Anna Maria sound to Miguel bay. Tarpon fishing will be in full swing in the next month. Tom Chaya
