Anna Maria - Saltwater Fishing Report

Started the week tarpon fishing in the pass off the north end of Anna Maria with Shane from Eustis florida. We landed three fish in the eighty to hundred and twenty pound range. All on a morning incoming tide, while fishing with crabs for bait.

The next day I fished Alan Shwartz and friends. They just wanted action with fish for dinner. We found nice schools of trout in north sarasota bay and ended up with a limit of slot fish from sixteen inches to twenty-two inches. We also caught spanish mackerel and bluefish to four pounds. My next trip was more of the same good trout fishing with fifteen keepers.

Tim Beckman and party fished with me on friday the 27th. They wanted fish for dinner. Again I fished north sarasota bay flats with good action. We did not have as many fish but much better quality. Two fish were over twenty three inches.

Saturday I had the pleasure of fishing with Ken Lawson his dad and son. Ken wanted to catch some grouper before the season closed June 1st. We headed out to a hard bottom area about six miles off bean point. We caught plenty of grouper but they all where to small to take home for dinner. Ken did catch a thirty pound cobia and some nice mangrove snapper, before we headed in for some flats fishing. On the flats at the mouth of the Manatee river we managed five nice keeper trout.

Toni Martinez and crew fished with me on Wednesday the 1st of June. We started by fishing the pass on the north end of Anna Maria for tarpon. By ten in the morning we had five fish on and landed one in the eighty to ninety pound range. We then went to an area I had spotted redfish the day before. The reds were still there and we managed to land six fish up to thirty two inches before the tide got full. We also caught and released two nice snook before moving on to some deeper flats for trout. We only got to fish for trout a short time when the weather ran us off.

Good Fishing!
