Tampa Bay Inshore Report

Capt. Brady Nelson
February 29, 2012
Anna Maria - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing is really heating up now on the flats on and around Tampa Bay. My trips in the past week have consisted of a regular client of mine whom has been with me twice last week bringing a different friend each time.

The first trip was the day after that nasty cold front and the water temps had fallen to the coldest yet this winter, 53* resulting in a tough day of fishing with not much more than a few sheepshead. On his second outing 4 days later we made up for that with water temps coming up nicely we caught black drum up to 50lbs. and 22 trout over 18" with a nice 25" Gator Trout and many over 20" and a few slot reds.

The Coats family went with me the next day producing more fine trout ranging from 18" to 24" and a few more reds. My next trip was with a very talented local musician Dave Gandia from Polk county.

We first went for the black drum and there were not being found on that day but we went for the flats and scored over 45 reds ranging from 25" to 36", yes over 45. While casting out the left side of the boat was hooking us up with as many reds as you wanted the right side of the boat was producing those nice trout up to 25" and we caught at least 20 of them classifying that particular day as awesome. Garry Kettle and friend Jim went with me yesterday and the water temps reached 75*, right were the fish like it. Though we fished 20 mi hour winds and couldn't get to the bite I was on. We improvised by fishing some other flats out of the wind that produced 3, yes 3, 26" Gator Trout , a hand full of smaller ones and a few 20"- 26" reds. One of the 26" trout was just an absolute pig weighing around 7lbs. I got the bait, tackle, boat and I am on the bite so come on out and enjoy a great day on the water with me aboard Bass N Bay Charters, you won't be sorry. http://www.bassnbaycharters.com/joomla/

To all my regular fisherman and family's I look forward to seeing you all in the months to come as most of you have become like friends and family on my boat. To all of you who haven't yet fished with me, come as a client and leave as a friend. Hope to see you all soon. I'm starting to book up pretty good for March and April so give me a call and get your day of saltwater fishing on the calendar.

Thanks so much,

Capt. Brady
