Warmer Weather Signals an Early Spring

Capt. Tom Chaya
March 1, 2018
Anna Maria - Saltwater Fishing Report

Warm weather for most of February provided Spring time conditions a few weeks earlier. Snook fishing was very good the last week and should remain steady throughout March.

Winter species remained quite good. Permit and pompano roamed the beaches hitting jigs and live shrimp. Sheepshead, black drum, and whiting were also in the mix for beach fishing. Water temperatures are now in the mid 70's which will move trout, snook and reds on to the grass flats and out of the cold water areas.

March should bring a kingfish and Spanish mackerel migration off Anna Maria Island. Plenty of bait and sardines have already showed in the 30-60 foot depths and a few kings are here.

Thanks,

Tom Chaya
